City Council | February 10, 2025
On February 10th, the monthly city council meeting covered several agenda items. General housekeeping updates included revising the city hall address and modifying finance department policies.
💰️ The City Manager now has authorization to approve single expenditures under $50,000, with amounts exceeding this threshold requiring City Council approval. The policy was updated to require Council approval only when expenditures exceed current authorization by $50,000. The city's purchasing policy was revised to ensure optimal use of Mont Belvieu's resources and maximize value for public funds.
For the Town Center project, the Riceland developer is advancing to the next construction phase, which includes:
🛣️ Completing Festival Street construction in front of the City Hall Annex
To maintain parking access during this phase, these construction projects will proceed simultaneously:
The reconstruction of the parking lot serving both the Council Chambers and Courts
The renovation of the City Hall annex parking area
—Labarca Brothers was selected as the contractor based on availability.
Other approved items included:
Creating the Capital Improvement Advisory Committee, appointing members, and establishing procedural rules
Agreement with Brickyard Apartment Project developer to share costs (50/50) for new sanitary sewer force main on Langston Drive 🚽
Engineering design services for 4,700 LF of Langston Drive, a critical east-west connector between SH HWY 146 and Eagle Drive, driven by growth along SH 99

This week, we're excited to announce the official Grand Opening of three new brick-and-mortar businesses in our community and an online boutique owned by one of our neighbors. On Friday, join the Mont Belvieu Area Chamber of Commerce, as they celebrate ribbon-cutting ceremonies for two of our new businesses. 🎀
Her Facility is a co-working space that advertises "A beautiful space for women to work. Workspaces designed for women to get inspired, be connected, feel supported, and end the day accomplished." | Ribbon cutting at 11AM
AD Speech Therapy is a mobile speech therapy practice providing individualized instruction to children ages 18 months to 15 years. They specialize in early intervention, late talkers, speech sound disorders, and much more! | Ribbon cutting at 10AM
🥪 Jersey Mike’s will officially open its doors this week! They future feature cold cut sandwiches and Philly cheesesteaks. If you haven’t tried them yet— make it the place to stop by.
Last but not least is Loosely Defined Boutique, an online boutique in our backyard. They specialize in women's clothing and have something for everyone with their new clothing drops each Tuesday!

Chambers County 2025 Citizens Academy
Have you ever wanted to learn more about how sheriffs operate, the various aspects of their jobs, crime scene responses, and special units like K-9 policing and narcotics enforcement? The Chambers County Sheriff's Office is excited to offer citizens a unique opportunity to gain insight into law enforcement through its Citizen's Academy.
This program, which started in 2024 with great success, is now accepting applications for 2025! The 8-week academy will begin on Thursday, April 3rd, and will take place on weeknights from 6 PM to 8:30 PM. This free program is open to residents of Chambers County, but space is limited, so interested participants must submit their applications by February 24th. Email [email protected] to register.

Scoop on Barbers Hill Sports 🏀
🏊️ Congratulations to the Barbers Hill Swim Team on their outstanding performance at regionals! Day two saw nine of their races finish in the region's top 8. The team's excellence shone through with two state qualifiers and three individual race achievements.
GIRLS 👧
BASKETBALL: The Barbers Hill girls basketball team continues to be a formidable force this season. In the 2025 UIL State Championship Conference, they secured a decisive victory over Santa Fe in a neutral game with a score of 60-47. On Thursday, February 13th, they extended their winning streak by defeating Huntsville 62-54. The Lady Eagles march on in the playoffs! Go Eagles!
SOCCER: The Barbers Hill Eagles soccer team defended their home turf on Tuesday, February 11th, securing a 2-0 win against Nederland. On Friday, February 14th, they posted another clean sheet, defeating Westbrook 2-0.
SOFTBALL: The Barbers Hill Eagles softball season opened with a tough 5-1 loss to Liberty, but the team quickly bounced back in impressive fashion. On Thursday, they dominated with back-to-back shutouts, blanking Conroe 10-0 and following up with a 6-0 victory over Langham. The Eagles continued their stellar performance on Friday, February 14th, securing two more wins: a tight 1-0 victory against Walnut Grove and a commanding 8-0 triumph over Montgomery.
BOYS 👦
BASKETBALL: On February 7th, the Barbers Hill Eagles boys varsity basketball team fell to West Brook in a close home conference matchup, with a final score of 56-51. The team bounced back on February 11th to complete their District schedule, securing a sweep against Sterling Baytown with a convincing 68-54 victory. With District play now concluded, the Eagles advance to the playoffs!
SOCCER: The Barbers Hill Eagles boys soccer team faced a tough 1-0 loss in their home conference match against Port Neches Grove on February 7th. The Eagles then battled to a draw against Nederland on February 11th in another home field contest. The team showed their resilience on Valentine's Day, shutting out Westbrook in a 1-0 victory to get back in the win column. ⚽️
